Susanne Höfte
Background
Susanne became involved in the living group climate research as a law student in 2011. She has now graduated as a lawyer in juvenile and civil law. The government has a duty to safeguard the basic principles of children’s rights. The question is whether the secure juvenile institutions in the Netherlands meet the requirements set out in the CRC with regard to measures to deprive children of their liberty and forced treatment.
Susanne: “The first time I entered a juvenile detention centre to interview young people about their living situation made a deep impression on me. The result of combining my legal background with the data from the living group climate is a unique doctoral research into the rights of the child in secure juvenile institutions.”
