Admission requirements
- Bachelor’s degree ICT with a specialisation Forensic IT from Leiden UAS
- Bachelor's degree Informatics, Computer Science, ICT or Bio-informatics and completed minor 'Digital Forensics' from Leiden UAS

English Language proficiency requirement
Our Master's programs are taught in English, and strong English language skills are essential for successful completion. To ensure students are adequately prepared, higher education institutions in the Netherlands have implemented a uniform standard for the minimum level of English proficiency required for admission to English-taught programs.
The following list provides an overview of the accepted proofs of English language proficiency, including exemptions and alternative options in cases of extenuating circumstances. Only the listed tests are recognized as valid proof of English proficiency for admission. Results from unlisted tests will not be accepted.
Tests and required scores
- TOEFL iBT Test: minimum total score of 80.
- IELTS Academic: overall band score of 6.0. with no minimum score per subscore:
- Cambridge English First (FCE) - Grade B (scale 173 - 175) First (FCE) - Grade C (scale 169 - 172).
- Pearson PTE Academic – 61.
- LanguageCert – Academic – 65.
TOEIC2 with a minimum score of 865 for Listening and Reading and a minimum score of 335 for Speaking and Writing. Other test versions or modules are not accepted. Examples of this include but are not limited to: IELTS Indicator, IELTS One Skill Retake, TOEFL Home Edition, TOEFL MyBest Scores, etc.
Exemptions
You may be exempt from providing proof of English language proficiency if:
- You obtained a Dutch havo, vwo or mbo-4 diploma with a sufficient grade in English;
- You completed your secondary education in one of the countries listed under the "Diploma list" on the website of the signatories to the Code of Conduct for International Students in Dutch Higher Education.
- You were educated in one of the following countries and your diploma includes English as a subject: the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada (excluding Quebec), Australia or New Zealand; or you have obtained an English-taught International Baccalaureate;
You completed a validated, English‑taught BSc or MSc programme.
In exceptional situations, where it is not possible to safely travel to a test center due to armed conflict, natural disasters, or other serious safety concerns, we may accept the TOEFL iBT Home Edition as an alternative online assessment. Please note: This exception is only granted in cases where there is a well-founded and documented safety risk. It does not apply to convenience or logistical difficulties.
Premaster programme
If you have a professional degree equivalent to a bachelor's in the field of Computer Science, ICT or Informatics, you may have the option to take a pre-master’s programme to meet the necessary prerequisites. Please complete the intake process to determine your eligibility for the pre-master's programme. Please be aware of the costs associated with the pre-master programme. The costs depend on the size of the programme you need to complete. This will be discussed during the intake interview.
Register
To start the process of enrolment, it is important that you first register via Studielink. After your registration, you will receive an invitation via email for the online intake process.
The final deadline for enrolment for the academic year 2025-2026 is 15 August 2026. Early enrolment is strongly recommended to allow sufficient time to complete the intake process and resolve any admission requirements (e.g. deficiencies). Please note that the enrolment deadline for international students is 1 May 2026. If your degree was obtained outside the Netherlands, you must send a certified copy of your diploma and transcript to the Student Enrolment Department. These documents must be reviewed and approved before you can be invited for an intake interview.
Intake
Once you have registered for the Master Digital Forensics via Studielink you will receive an invitation (via email) for the intake process. The intake process consists of the following steps:
Step 1: educational qualifications
During step 1, we ask you to indicate which professional degree you have. You are directly admissible with a:
- Bachelor’s degree ICT with specialisation Forensic IT of Leiden UAS
- Bachelor's degree Informatics, Computer Science, ICT or Bio-informatics + completed minor Digital Forensics of Leiden UAS
If you have a professional degree equivalent to a bachelor's in the field of Computer Science, ICT or Informatics, you may have the option to take a pre-master’s programme to meet the necessary prerequisites. Please complete the intake process to determine your eligibility for the pre-master's programme.
*Please note that if your degree is not from a University in the Netherlands, you must be able to provide a certified copy of your diploma and transcript. Leiden UAS will assess your diploma for admissibility.
Step 2: English language requirement
As our master’s program is taught in English, applicants are expected to demonstrate sufficient proficiency in academic English. Further details on accepted English language tests and required scores can be found under English language proficiency requirements under section 1. admission requirements). During step 2, you will be asked to upload documents that prove you meet these requirements.
Step 3: review portfolio
Once you have completed the intake process and submitted your portfolio, your portfolio will be reviewed. You will be informed if you meet the admission requirements. If you are not directly admissible, you will be invited for an intake interview to discuss further requirements regarding your eligibility for the master’s programme. If there are deficiencies, often there is the option to follow a pre-master programme to meet the admission requirements. Final approval of your portfolio by the Exam committee is needed to finalize your enrolment. Additionally, student enrolment will check the administrative requirements and may ask you for more information. Your registration can only be finalized once all required information has been received.

Minor Digital Forensics
Are you currently studying hbo Informatics, Computer Science, ICT, or Bio-informatics, and are you interested in specialising in Digital Forensics? Leiden UAS offers the minor "Digital Forensics". This minor serves as a pre-master's track for the Digital Forensics master's degree.
Students who successfully complete the minor and their bachelor's degree can directly start the master's degree in Digital Forensics.

Costs
The statutory tuition fees apply to the Digital Forensics master’s programme. The tuition fees are determined annually. The current amounts can be found on the Tuition Fees page of the Student Enrollment Department.

Pre-Master module
The tuition fee for the pre-master Digital Forensics programme varies per module depending on the size (and ECTS) of the specific module. The total costs of the pre-master programme depends on the programme you need to complete. This will be discussed during the intake interview.
