Education

High-quality and accessible education is paramount for people's development and well-being, and is considered an important basis for a sustainable democracy. Leiden has a long history as an educational hub. Within our university of applied sciences, we host one of the largest teacher training colleges in the country, distinguished by its robust pedagogical principles and innovative ethos.

Societal challenges

From our anthroposophical and art education programmes, we have expertise that has (inter)national impact on (pre-, vwo, mbo and hbo) education and networks of childcare, youth aid and welfare.

Through our applied research, we work closely with many different innovative primary schools throughout the Randstad.

Examples of societal challenges we aim to help address with our practice-based research include:

  • addressing the acute shortage of teachers;
  • meeting the demand for leadership in education;
  • facilitating the transition to sustainable schools;
  • reorganising and innovating in (special) education.
