- 30 June 2026 - Completion pre-master programme
- 15 August 2026 – General enrolment.
Admission requirements
- Bachelor’s degree ICT with specialisation Forensic IT.
- If you have a professional degree equivalent to a bachelor's in the field of Computer Science, ICT or Informatics, you may have the option to take a pre-master’s programme to meet the necessary prerequisites. Please complete the intake process to determine your eligibility for the pre-master's programme.
- Suitable workplace in the field of digital forensics.
- Proficiency in academic English is required. Further details on accepted English language tests and the required scores can be found under the English language proficiency requirements section.
English Language proficiency requirements
Our Master's programs are taught in English, and strong English language skills are essential for successful completion. To ensure students are adequately prepared, higher education institutions in the Netherlands have implemented a uniform standard for the minimum level of English proficiency required for admission to English-taught programs.
The following list provides an overview of the accepted proofs of English language proficiency, including exemptions and alternative options in cases of extenuating circumstances. Only the listed tests are recognized as valid proof of English proficiency for admission. Results from unlisted tests will not be accepted.
Tests and required scores
- TOEFL iBT Test: minimum total score of 80.
- IELTS Academic: overall band score of 6.0. with no minimum score per subscore:
- Cambridge English First (FCE) - Grade B (scale 173 - 175) First (FCE) - Grade C (scale 169 - 172).
- Pearson PTE Academic – 61.
- LanguageCert – Academic – 65.
TOEIC2 with a minimum score of 865 for Listening and Reading and a minimum score of 335 for Speaking and Writing. Other test versions or modules are not accepted. Examples of this include but are not limited to: IELTS Indicator, IELTS One Skill Retake, TOEFL Home Edition, TOEFL MyBest Scores, etc.
Exemptions
You may be exempt from providing proof of English language proficiency if:
- You obtained a Dutch havo, vwo or MBO4 diploma with a sufficient grade in English;
- You completed your secondary education in one of the countries listed under the “Diploma list” on the website of the signatories to the Code of Conduct for International Students in Dutch Higher Education.
- You were educated in one of the following countries and your diploma includes English as a subject: the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada (excluding Quebec), Australia or New Zealand; or you have obtained an English-taught International Baccalaureate;
You completed a validated, English‑taught BSc or MSc programme.
In exceptional situations, where it is not possible to safely travel to a test center due to armed conflict, natural disasters, or other serious safety concerns, we may accept the TOEFL iBT Home Edition as an alternative online assessment. Please note: This exception is only granted in cases where there is a well-founded and documented safety risk. It does not apply to convenience or logistical difficulties.
Premaster programme
If you have a professional degree equivalent to a bachelor's in the field of Computer Science, ICT or Informatics, you may have the option to take a pre-master’s programme to meet the necessary prerequisites. Please complete the intake process to determine your eligibility for the pre-master's programme. Please be aware of the costs associated with the pre-master programme. The costs depend on the size of the programme you need to complete. This will be discussed during the intake interview.
Register
You start by registering via Studielink for the Master Digital Forensics (part-time). Once registered, you will receive an email invitation for the online intake process.
The final deadline for enrolment is 15 August 2026. Early enrolment is strongly recommended to allow sufficient time to complete the intake process and resolve any admission requirements (e.g. deficiencies). Please note that the enrolment deadline for international students is 1 May 2026. If your degree was obtained outside the Netherlands, you must send a certified copy of your diploma and transcript to the Student Enrolment Department. These documents must be reviewed and approved before you can be invited for an intake interview.
Intake
Once you have registered for the Master of Digital Forensics via Studielink you will receive an invitation (via email) for the intake process.
The intake process consists of the following steps:
Step 1: Assessment knowledge & skills
The admission requirement is a bachelor’s degree ICT with specialisation Forensic IT.
Do you have a professional degree equivalent to a bachelor's in the field of Computer Science, ICT or Informatics? Often there is the option to take a pre-master’s programme to meet the necessary prerequisites. Alternatively you can submit proof in the form of relevant work experience, certifications or classes taken to demonstrate that you meet the required prerequisites. This will be evaluated and determined during the intake process and interview.
*Please note that if your degree is not from a University in the Netherlands, you must be able to provide a certified copy of your diploma and transcript. Leiden UAS will assess your diploma for admissibility.
Step 2: Suitable workplace
A suitable workplace in the field of digital forensics is needed to start with the Master’s program. A workplace evaluation form needs to be completed and submitted. Download the Workplace Evaluation Form (pdf) that needs to be filled out. The completed form will be part of your portfolio.
Step 3: English language requirement
As our master’s program is taught in English, applicants are expected to demonstrate sufficient proficiency in academic English. Further details on accepted English language tests and required scores can be found under English language proficiency requirements under section 1. admission requirements). You will be asked to upload documents that prove you meet these requirements.
Step 4: Intake interview
After submitting your portfolio you will be invited for an intake interview to discuss further requirements, if any, regarding your eligibility to the Master’s program. If there are deficiencies, often there is the option to follow a pre-master program to meet the admission requirements. Final approval of your portfolio by the Exam committee is needed to finalize your enrolment.
Practical information
Costs
The statutory tuition fees apply to the Digital Forensics master’s program. The tuition fees are determined annually. The current amounts can be found on the Tuition Fees page of the Student Enrollment Department.

Pre-Master module
The tuition fee for the pre-master Digital Forensics program varies per module depending on the size (and ECTS) of the specific module. This will be discussed during the intake interview.
Information for employers
The Master of Digital Forensics focuses on employees with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree working in the digital forensic field who are interested in further developing their skills and knowledge to become a specialist.
Your employee will develop into a highly educated professional who understands the fundamental concepts of modern digital forensics and can apply these concepts to every day challenges in the fast-changing domain. Depending on specialization courses, your employee will be able to conduct applied research in ever-changing domain, or be able to develop and operate state of the art forensic tools.
Within the program there is room to work on real-world issues and practical situations. Your employee will learn to analyze current developments in the field of digital forensics. Upon completion your employee will have learned to communicate and embed these into policies and processes within your organization.
