Microcredentials: flexible stackable education
As a working professional you continue to pursue life-long development. To help you build your own educational profile flexibly, Leiden University of Applied Sciences (UAS), together with 31 other educational institutions has started the national pilot-programme microcredentials.
What is a microcredential?
Microcredentials certify the successful learning outcomes of short courses, trainings and other learning modules. They offer a flexible, targeted way to help you show how you are developing the knowledge, skills and competencies you need in your personal and professional development.
A microcredential:
- is a personal, digital certificate
- stands for high quality education achieved at BSc or MSc level
- is stackable: combine your microcredentials to build your own educational profile

Your educational profile: transparent and insightful
It’s often difficult to discern the learning outcomes and the level of courses and training modules you have followed. Each of your microcredentials is a recognized digital certificate with which you demonstrate the knowledge and skills you have obtained and at which level you master them. This makes it possible to design personal learning pathways whose quality is both clear and guaranteed to you, and your (future) employers, just like a regular bachelor’s or master’s degree.
