Examples of recent and current projects

The last years we have been active in countries such as Guatemala, South-Africa, Indonesia, Ghana and Uganda. Our partners are universities and post-secondary training institutions in various fields. Below are some examples of recent and current projects:

Effective Management of Vocational Education and Training

Bhutan, 2011, NFP - In cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources and the Royal University of Bhutan

Up scaling and Upgrading the training of nurses and midwives in Northern Ghana.

Ghana, 2011-2015, NICHE/GHANA/102 - Our team Internationalisation & Diversity carries out this project, together with colleagues of our Education and Healthcare faculties. Lead-partner is CINOP from Den Bosch, international partners are the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST, Ghana) and Northwestern University (South-Africa). The goal of this project is to upscale and upgrade the training of nurses and midwives in Northern Ghana in order to improve mother and child healthcare and subsequently infant and maternity mortality rates.

Fortalecimiento a la Formación Superior en Investigación Criminal y Forense (CRIMFOR II, Guatemala)

Guatemala, 2011-2015, NICHE/GTM/051 - Our team Internationalisation & Diversity carries out this project, together with colleagues of our Education and Management & Business faculties. Our external partners are the Centre for International Legal Cooperation (CILC, The Hague), the National Forensic Institute (NFI, Amsterdam) and the University of Amsterdam (Masterprogramme in Forensic Sciences). This project is the second phase of the CRIMFOR project UAS Leiden carried out from 2005 - 2009. Goal of the project is to extend the existing diploma-course to a so-called Licenciatura (full degree) programme, including possibilities to develop post-graduate programmes in specialist forensic and criminalistics themes.

Development and implementation of a system for follow-up and continuous training within police practice in Guatemala

Guatemala, 2010-2014, NICHE/GTM/045 - In cooperation with the Academia de la Policia Nacional Civil (APNC). Our team Internationalisation & Diversity carries out this project, together with colleagues of our Education and Management & Business faculties. It takes place at the Academia PoliciaNacional Civil in Guatemala and is the second phase of the APNC-project that UAS Leiden carried out from 2005 - 2009. The goal of the project is to set up training programmes for police in their daily practice in Guatemala. Our partner in this project is Instituto Nacional de Administración Pública (INAP, Guatemala).

Consolidation of Capacity Strengthening of the Prisons and Police Training Institutions (Uganda)

Uganda, NICHE/UGA/114, 2011-2015 - Our team Internationalisation & Diversity carries out this project, together with colleagues of our Education and Management & Business and Social Work & Applied Psychology faculties. Our external partners are the Uganda Management Institute (UMI, Uganda), University of South Africa (UNISA, South-Africa) and the Centre for International Legal Cooperation (CILC, The Hague). This project is the second phase of the "Police & Prison" project UAS Leiden carried out from 2005 - 2009. The goal of the project is to build on that project and enhance the quality of teaching at the training institutions of the Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) and the Uganda Police Force (UPF). One of the intended results is the accreditation of the training institutions by the Uganda National Commission on Higher Education.

Mainstreaming and Strengthening the Social Component in the Justice, Law and Order Sector (JLOS) in Uganda

Uganda, NICHE/UGA/017, 2010-2014 - This project is carried out together with the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS, The Hague, part of Erasmus University). Its aim is to introduce social components in the training of personnel in the Justice, Law and Order Sector in Uganda.

Capacity enhancement of UMI for delivery of programs that support school-management and supervision

Uganda, NICHE/UGA/084, 2011-2015 - Lead-partner in this project is CINOP from Den Bosch. Other partners include ICLON (Leiden University).

Capacity building of BPSDM in Legislative Drafting Education and Training

Indonesia, NICHE/IDN/144, 2012-2016 - Our team Internationalisation & Diversity carries out this project, together with colleagues of our Education and Management & Business and Social Work & Applied Psychology faculties. Lead-partner is CINOP from Den Bosch, (inter)national partners are Wageningen University (WUR, Wageningen) and the Universitas Indonesia (Jakarta, Indonesia).
