Research group Sustainable & Circular Business
The research group ‘Sustainable & Circular Business’ conducts practice-oriented research with companies, municipalities, NGOs and user-groups. Focus is on the role of business strategies, marketing and business models which enable the development and implementation of products and services that help reduce social and environmental problems.
Another aim of the research group is to further implement the topics sustainability, circularity and social innovations into the business curriculum of University of Applied Sciences Leiden.
Julia Planko is professor of Sustainable & Circular Business at University of Applied Sciences Leiden. She holds a PhD in Innovation Studies and a Master’s in International Economics. She has previously worked on research projects in the field of sustainable and circular textiles, smart grid implementation, energy positive areas, reduction of plastic pollution and circular building materials. Her research specialization is on how companies can contribute to more sustainability in our society. Hereby the focus is on the role of business strategies, marketing and business models which enable the development and implementation of products and services that help reduce social and environmental problems. This includes collaboration strategies of companies to achieve their sustainability goals by collectively striving for changes in the production and consumption system, as well as collaborative business models for networks of companies.
Currently we have four main research projects. These are:
- Customer Values in Circular Textiles
- Rethinking Curtain Waste
- Living Lab Urban Circularity Transitions
- Role of entrepreneurs in the reduction of plastic pollution
