UAS Leiden mainly offers Bachelor Programmes. We offer study programmes in the field of Health, Social Work and Applied Psychology, Education, Management and Business, and Technology. Our Bachelor Programmes, which are all recognized by the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders, are taught in Dutch. Next to this, UAS Leiden offers a 1 year part-time Postgraduate Programme International Public Health and some courses for (Erasmus) exchange students, which are in English. In the years to come, we will develop more (parts of) programmes and courses in English.
If you have a foreign diploma and you would like to register for a Bachelor Programme, UAS Leiden will check if your diploma is sufficient to be admitted. Please send a certified copy of your diploma and your list of marks to Caroline Teeuwisse from our Student Registration Office. (teeuwisse.c@hsleiden.nl). Please note that this procedure is not required for (Erasmus) exchange students.
Our Bachelor Programmes start at the beginning of September. The deadline to send in your diploma and list of marks is the 1st of May.
If you do not have a diploma or if the level of your preliminary training is not sufficient, you can do an entrance exam. Please do note that you can only do this if you are at least 21 years old. For more information about taking an entrance exam please contact studeren@hsleiden.nl
If you want to register for a Bachelor Programme, please apply via www.studielink.nl
If you are an (Erasmus) exchange student please do NOT apply via www.studielink.nl. Instead please fill in the application form for (Erasmus) exchange students.
If you have a foreign diploma and you would like to register for a Bachelor Programme that is taught in Dutch, you need to show that you have sufficient knowledge of the Dutch language. In most cases this means that you have to be in the possession of an NT2 diploma, programme II. If you do not have this diploma yet, the Dutch government will allow you to prepare yourself for this diploma in the Netherlands for one year. A lot of Dutch language courses run from September to July, so plan ahead carefully.
At www.nuffic.nl you can find more information about NT2 and a list of institutes that offer Dutch language courses.
Please note that an NT2 exam can only be taken in the Netherlands. Here you can read how to register for such an exam.
Tuition fees
Since the academic year 2010-2011 tuition fees for international students who are new at UAS Leiden are € 6,550.-. An international student who receives Dutch study grant (studiefinanciering) or who is a national from the European Union, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland or Suriname, pays the same tuition fees as a student who has the Dutch nationality. Their tuition fees for the academic year 2010-2011 are € 1,672.-. Exceptions to the rules exist. If you want to know what tuition fees you pay, you can contact Caroline Teeuwisse at the Student Registration Office (teeuwisse.c@hsleiden.nl).
If you are an (Erasmus) exchange student you do NOT pay tuition fees! Erasmus students can apply for an Erasmus scholarship at their home institution.
Dutch study grant
In certain cases non-Dutch students can also receive Dutch study grant (in Dutch this is called studiefinanciering). Check at www.ib-groep.nl/international_visitors if you are entitled to this study grant.
Scholarships
Check at www.grantfinder.nl what other grants and scholarships are available for international students who would like to study in the Netherlands.
Costs of living
Next to tuition fees, you have to take into account that your monthly costs of living will approximately be between € 700.- and
€ 1,000.- euro. This includes costs for housing, food and personal expenses.
Before coming to the Netherlands you might need a visa. This may be a short stay visa, but if you stay longer than three months you might need an authorization for temporary stay. In Dutch this visa is called an MVV. You can check at www.nuffic.nl if you need a visa.
If you need a short stay visa, you have to apply for it at the Dutch embassy or consulate in your home country. If you need an authorization for temporary stay (MVV), UAS Leiden can arrange this for you. we will start the application procedure after you have been admitted to the Bachelor Programme of your choice and after you have transferred € 10,000.- to the bank account of UAS Leiden. This amount of money is required to show that you have sufficient financial means to study in the Netherlands. Deadline to show that you have fulfilled the requirements is 1 July 2011.
It is important to realise that you cannot change your short stay visa into an authorization for temporary stay once you are in the Netherlands.
If you have questions about this topic, you can contact Caroline Teeuwisse at the Student Registration Office (teeuwisse.c@hsleiden.nl).
Before you come to the Netherlands, make sure that you have made arrangements to be properly insured against the costs of medical treatment and liability. At www.nuffic.nl you can read which insurance applies to your situation.
You can find more information about living and studying in the Netherlands on www.studyinholland.nl and www.newtoholland.nl.
