International Public Health

Introduction

The post-graduate diploma course in International Public Health is intended for health professionals (medical doctors, nurses, midwives and other allied health professionals) who intend to work in health care in developing countries.

The International Public Health Course trains health professionals who are able to:

• collect information about the health situation of a community;
• determine its health problems and find appropriate solutions in co-operation with the local community;
• facilitate the development of (aspects) of health care projects such as the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects, the development of information systems, setting up (long term) health promotion and prevention campaigns as well as (short term) emergency aid;
• participate in the (further) training of local health workers.

This one year part-time course (1 day a week) is unique in its kind. After finishing the course, most students are sent out by development agencies such as MSF (Médecins Sans Frontières), Médecins du Monde and VSO.

The official language of the course is English.
